Trying Out Maximalist Decor in the Sims 4
As I mentioned in my post last week, I currently live in an apartment, but I love to search for interior decorating inspiration. I also like to test out some of my decorating ideas in the Sims 4, where anything is possible within the limits of the modded furniture I’ve downloaded. Maybe the Sims isn’t exactly a realistic simulator for what I can expect from a future home, especially because I use the motherlode cheat for that $$$money$$$ every time I play, but it’s still fun to create the rooms of my dreams featured below.
There’s a lot going on in most of these rooms, since I really like maximalist bohemian styles and these rooms are somewhat...Simified. For instance, take a look at the picture below:
A bedroom may not usually contain a guitar, a mini-fridge, and a fully lit video filming station, but why shouldn’t it? Especially when there’s room for another desk in the corner. And a canopy on a bed always adds some romanticism and mystery. Like, who’s behind those curtains? What is it hiding?
I really like this pinkish tan color of the walls and the rug, which feels very calm. The couch at the end of the bed might be a little weird but listen, there’s a TV across from the bed and my sims won’t lie down to watch TV, so without that couch they’d just stand there like fools in their own room uncomfortably watching television. They need this.
The image above is another one of my favorite sim bedrooms. This one has a nature mural on the walls of a misty garden and features a Klimt painting above the bed (expect to see another of those, I downloaded a mod pack). I don’t expect a penthouse view like the one my sims have, but this wood and bohemian furniture combination could be a reality. Maybe I could even dig my own crystals out of the ground like my sims to use as decor.
You might think the focal point of this children’s room is the huge fireplace, but it might actually be the glowing blue orb on the desk. It’s a little redundant with the other crystal ball on the coffee table, but you can never have too many balls. Also, the side tables next to the bed are little cupcakes! This child has a future in baking fortune-telling.
This is the room for me, this is the living room I want. The only thing I’d change is the absolutely ginormous TV above the fireplace which is actually too big to watch, but subtract that and this is a great room with a reading nook and some music to enjoy. There are a lot of colors going on here and for some reason I’m feeling it! You may also notice that most of these rooms have plants in them, which I consider a home essential. Have a space? Add a plant! They’ll improve your mental health and they look good.
This living room is a lot more muted. Everything is white and brown except for the bright painting above the fireplace, which really draws you in. I especially like the wood slab coffee table...definitely considering one of those for the future. The fully mirrored walls on either side of the fireplace might be a little bit much, but hey, sometimes you need to practice your speech skill or your pickup lines. Fun fact, the sofa on the left is meant to look like a hot dog bun.
You might notice that another element I’m always adding is rugs. They’re the art of the floor! Ok, my dining room is probably never going to be this weirdly beautiful, but I can still use this color scheme.
This bedroom is a little more relaxed than some of the others I’ve created, but peep the floral painting hiding behind the bed curtains. Plants can go on the wall too! In a spot where a real plant can’t grow and a fake plant doesn’t fit, nature-themed artwork can be nice.
And check out the other side of the room - tin tile walls! I’m kind of obsessed with vintage tin tiling. These sims are also lucky enough to have a mini-fridge and tea kettle in their bedroom - you know, essentials.
Finally, here’s a bathroom that will never be even remotely replicated in real life by me at least, featuring a golden toilet and another Klimt. We all deserve swan-imprinted golden toilets and gold-winged bathtubs.
That’s it! Here’s a weird looking cat for the road. Hope you enjoyed!
