Easy Heatless Vintage Hair Tutorial

This is my go-to hairstyle when I want a vintage look, and it's super easy to do! I use foam rollers which are inexpensive and non- damaging, plus it's an authentic vintage method! Let's jump in.

You're going to need a set of foam rollers, available at most drug stores or beauty supply stores, a spray bottle filled with water, and a hair brush.

You want your hair to be damp, I've found that the best method is starting with totally dry hair and then spraying it with water. For my hair (which is very thick) I spray it all over first and brush it through, then spray each section a little more right before I roll it up. You want your hair to be slightly damp, NOT wet or it won't set.

Next you take 1-2 inch sections and wrap the ends around the curler, then roll them the rest of the way up and snap the curler closed to secure it. Make sure the ends of each section are tucked behind the rest of it as you roll it up so you don't end up with little bits sticking out. My set of curlers comes with two sizes and I use both, I do it a little differently every time except I always use the bigger size to frame my face and the smaller one for my bangs. If you have very short hair you'll probably want to use the smaller ones all around, if your hair is long you can experiment with both, just remember; the smaller the curler, the tighter the curl.

Once you've got all of your hair in the curlers, let it set for about 6 hours or overnight (until totally dry). If you have a scarf on hand you can tie it around your head to protect it. Once your hair is dry, you're ready for my favorite part- the brush out!

When you first unroll your hair from the curlers you're going to look like Shirley Temple, but don't worry! Start by running your fingers through your hair to break up the curls a little bit, then brush it out. The curls won't go flat, trust me, keep brushing until you have your desired look.

Voila! An easy vintage look that's long lasting and won't fry your hair! Throw on some red lipstick and you're ready for a date with Clark Gable!
